A recent project with a customer in digital dentistry required the adaptation of the Magswitch MagJig 150. The custom-designed switchable magnet secures the print platform during the printing process and replaces a manual process that previously required twice the effort .
Boart Longyear, a global mineral exploration company, needed a solution for field workers to lift and transport drill rods . Previously, they lifted each drill rod by hand or with a heavy metal clamp, posing a risk of hand crushing. Magswitch responded by developing a magnetic hand lifter specifically for drill rods and drill sleeves. The project is nearing initial production approval.

One example is the MagDolly , a transport cart equipped with a standard lifting magnet. The company, which cleans and maintains grease traps, needed a tool that weighed under 30 lbs and was ergonomic and safe. This eliminates the need for end users to work in unhealthy positions to remove lids multiple times a day.
NEW APPLICATIONS FOR MAGNETS
Magnets are increasingly being used in unusual applications . End users can perform simple movements such as lifting, mounting, or fixing objects . For example, two heavy, ferromagnetic objects can be reliably joined together without welding or screwing.
The development of new alloys necessitates adjustments to switchable magnet technology. Thin, high-strength steels, such as those used in the automotive industry, require greater holding forces . Magswitch's research and development optimizes holding force beyond the performance of conventional magnetic grippers .
