Magswitch D12 pneumatic magnetic gripper for thin sheets
Article number: 81401541
The D12 is a pneumatically actuated magnetic gripper with an ultra-flat magnetic field and multi-array technology , specifically designed for handling thin sheets (< 2.0 mm) . The D12 excels where conventional magnets, EPM (Electric Permanent Magnetic) robot grippers, and suction cups cannot provide sufficient grip .
This innovative end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for industrial robots is ideally suited for light automation processes , including:
- Press loading and unloading
- Unstacking parts
- Machine feeding
- Pick and Place
- Robotic order picking
- Ergonomic handling support
The single-sided workpiece clamping enables robust and reliable automation processes. The D12 surpasses other automation solutions through standardized sensor options, NAAMS mounting, fail-safe operation, and the highest clamping force per cm² on thin sheet metal currently available on the market.
Features
The D12 magnetic gripper with ultra-flat magnetic field and modern NAAMS mounting technology increases productivity and surpasses alternative solutions through:
- Industry-leading holding power per mm² (3× stronger than the next best competitor)
- Destacking capability from 1.5 mm material thickness
- Compact design for accommodating complex geometries
- Flexible mounting options
- Extremely fast switching times under 300 ms (faster than EPM)
- Fail-safe operation – parts do not fall off in the event of a power failure.
- Optional ON/OFF tool sensors
- Industry standard G1/8 air connections
- No energy consumption in ON or OFF mode
- Low air pressure requirement
- 100% duty cycle
Competitive advantages
- Improved holding power per square centimeter
- Maximum holding power with a small footprint
- Industry-leading destacking performance – the ultra-flat magnetic field technology enables the lifting of a single 1.5 mm sheet insert from a stack
- Fewer tools are required to move a part.
- Simpler end effector designs
- Magswitch is a world leader in magnetic single-sided workpiece clamping.

Footnotes
¹ Determined in the laboratory on 2" (5.08 cm) thick SAE1018 steel with a surface roughness of 63 microinches and optimized pole shoes. Many factors influence the actual pull-off force and safe working load. Testing is required before use in any application.
² Tested with two SAE1018 steel sheets (200 × 200 mm, 1.5 mm thick).
³ Values may vary by ±5%.
⁴ The forces stated are not safe lifting forces. For safe working loads, Magswitch recommends a safety factor of 5:1 .
